Roccaverano is the highest village in the province of Asti, located at 800 m a.s.l.. Its main square, Piazza Barbero, is the heart and treasure of Langa Astigiana. The square is embellished with a tower, the ruins of the castle of the Marquises del Carretto (XII-XIII century) and by Santa Maria Annunziata church, a splendid example of Renaissance style. Inside a classroom of the former elementary school, there is the first showroom dedicated to our famous PDO cheese: THE SCHOOL OF “ROCCAVERANO PDO”.
The School was born in May 2019, in partnership with the Municipality of Roccaverano and the Pro Loco. It is not just a place to buy cheese, but an actual gastronomic and cultural site, and a documentation centre on our precious PDO cheese. Here, visits to the associated farms are organised to learn how cheese is made, how the feed for the animals is produced, how animals are bred, and – in compliance with current hygiene and health rules – how people work in dairies
